We are delighted to share positive news with our school community following our recent Ofsted inspection.
After a full inspection in January 2026, Ofsted confirmed that Southey Green Primary School and Nurseries is meeting the expected standard in all areas. Inspectors recognised the strong progress pupils make, as well as the calm, welcoming environment that helps children feel safe, happy and ready to learn.
This inspection was carried out under Ofsted’s new national framework, introduced in November 2025. Rather than giving schools a single overall grade, Ofsted now publishes a detailed report card that looks at different areas of school life. This approach gives parents a clearer and more balanced picture of a school’s strengths and priorities for improvement.
The report highlights that pupils make secure progress across the curriculum, with particularly strong outcomes in English and mathematics. Progress in these subjects is above the national average, and most pupils reach the expected standard by the end of Key Stage 2. Inspectors noted that this reflects the school’s strong focus on developing core knowledge and skills.
Classrooms were described as calm and purposeful, with pupils keen to learn and proud of their work. Inspectors also praised the strong relationships between staff and pupils, which help create a safe and supportive environment where children can thrive.
Reading was identified as a key strength. Phonics is taught consistently well from Reception onwards, and pupils who need extra support are helped quickly so they can keep up with their peers.
Other positives highlighted in the report include:
- A broad, well‑sequenced curriculum that builds knowledge and skills over time
- Clear systems for identifying and supporting additional needs
- High‑quality staff development and collaboration across the trust
- A wide range of clubs and enrichment opportunities
- Strong provision for personal development, including online safety, relationships and respect
Inspectors also confirmed that safeguarding arrangements are effective and that leaders have a clear understanding of the school’s strengths and next steps.
Head of School, Rachael Shotton, said:
“We are delighted that the inspection recognises the positive environment we have created and the progress our pupils make. Our staff work incredibly hard to ensure every child feels supported, valued and able to achieve their best. This report reflects the commitment of our staff, the enthusiasm of our pupils and the continued support of our families.”
We are very proud of this feedback and would like to thank our parents and carers for their ongoing support. Together, we remain committed to providing the very best education and experiences for every child at Southey Green.
